In-app browser

An in-app browser is the built-in browser that opens when you tap a link inside apps like Instagram or Facebook, instead of your phone's normal browser.

Also called: Instagram browser, webview, in-app web view

Why is it a problem?

In-app browsers can block links from opening other apps, so a fan who taps "Spotify" may land on a web page instead of the Spotify app. They also aren't logged in to your other sites.

How can people get out of it?

The menu (••• or ⋮) in the in-app browser has an option to open the page in the phone's own browser.

Does it affect tracking?

It can. Some in-app browsers pass less information about where a visit came from.

Example

A fan taps a bio link on Instagram, taps Apple Music, and lands on a web page asking them to sign in, because the in-app browser didn't open the app.

Doing it with Aulto

When an Aulto page is opened inside Instagram, Facebook or similar apps, it shows a one-line tip to open it in the phone's browser so streaming buttons open the right app.
