Industry terms
Deep link
A deep link opens a specific screen inside an app, like a song in the Spotify app, instead of a web page.
Also called: app link, universal link
Why do deep links matter for music?
Fans are logged in to their streaming app, not the website. A link that opens the app lets them play and save in one tap; a web page often asks them to log in first.
When do deep links fail?
Most often inside in-app browsers, like Instagram's, which can stop links from opening other apps.
How do you make links app-friendly?
Use links that point to the services' own addresses, which phones know to open in the app, and help people out of in-app browsers when needed.
Example
A fan taps a song link in a WhatsApp message and the song opens straight in their JioSaavn app, ready to play.
