Bop

A bop is a catchy, feel-good song that's easy to like on first listen and hard to stop playing. It's casual praise, usually for pop.

Also called: a bop, total bop, certified bop

What makes a song a bop?

A bright mood, a simple melody and a hook that arrives early. Bops are rarely complicated: they feel good, fit into any playlist and make people want to send them to a friend.

Is "bop" ever an insult?

Not usually. It is a compliment, though it suggests fun more than depth. Fans will happily call a sad lyric over an upbeat track a bop too.

How do artists use the word?

In teasers and captions ("new bop Friday"), and by sharing fans' reactions. Collecting the posts where listeners call your song a bop gives you ready-made social proof for the release week.

Example

A Hyderabad indie-pop duo shares a screenshot of fan comments saying "this is such a bop" in a story with a link sticker to the song.
