Opt-in
An opt-in is a person's clear permission to receive your messages, like ticking a box or entering their email to get updates.
Also called: consent, subscribe, sign-up
Why is opt-in required?
Email providers, WhatsApp and data protection laws all expect it. In India, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act asks for clear consent to use personal data. Messaging people who never agreed hurts deliverability and can get accounts blocked.
What makes a good opt-in?
It says what people will get and how often, it's never pre-ticked, and leaving is just as easy as joining.
Example
"Get an email when the album is out" next to an empty checkbox, rather than adding everyone who bought a ticket to a newsletter.
Doing it with Aulto
